About

“Pecha Kucha”, or Chit Chat in Japanese, is a form of presentation consisting of 20 slides, each lasting 20 seconds. Creating a short yet informative display that forces the presenter to keep short, clear points.

Heading straight to the official website, there are Pecha Kucha’s based on any and all topics. A personal favourite that I found was about connecting the franchise Kingdom Hearts to the concept of Empathy.

For this unit, we were to capture photographs each day and select one. From that, create our own Pecha Kucha about the near 3 week period. Focusing on the “Everyday” aspect of our lives, I noticed two very important things about my own experience:

1 – Aside from the aspect of moving house, my days were very mundane and boring. I either packed, focused on Uni work or played video games. Ultimately, I need to get out more.

2 – Because of the above, it became difficult to actually take the photographs. I was constantly reminding myself and, on some days, forcing myself to take something for this project. If it wasn’t for the whole “moving house” thing, I wouldn’t have much variance in my images across the project.

Although a University day, this was also the day that Ed & Koda left for Bristol. They’d be gone for 4 days meaning, I was home alone for this time. It was the first time I’d been home alone without both Koda and Ed around. Ed came and met me for lunch, before he set off. It was a very emotional and stressful day but these few moments of peace, sitting in the boot with Koda, watching the world go by was the best part. Even if I did end up covered in dog hair!
My evening consisted of packing, cleaning and watching movies to distract myself from the world.

Another rough day that started with a trip to the doctors. As someone who spends a lot of time in medical rooms, an empty one is always the worst. Waiting for them to come back, not knowing if it’s good news or bad. Thankfully the rest of the day went well and I spent it packing and cleaning. Occasionally getting distracted with a few trips into Animal Crossing.

Although my mental health was struggling, there are always things that need to be done. Today was the kitchen. I’d spent most of the day rotting away and didn’t get to it until gone 7pm. Once it was cleaned up, flicked over to the under counter lights. I always love these lights as they make it feel so much safer and cosier. Seeing everything lit, almost ominously, is a weirdly calming feeling.

Friday was a horrible day that I wish I never get to experience again. Prior to all the atrocities however, I made a start on packing up the office. Starting with Ed’s Magic:The Gathering collection and the plushies, I’m starting to see why people deem us as nerds. I’d managed to bust my back moving a lot of these but it was a necessary evil.

As we were moving out of this house, the estate agents needed to come and allow viewings. For this, Koda needed to be contained. However, if we shut the door on him, he starts singing the songs of his people! Sitting on the floor with him, it almost looked like he was in Doggy Jail for crimes against the carpets. He was good as gold during the viewings and I was so proud of not just him, but the training Ed & I have spent the last two years on.

Ed was back home from work and It was the first full day we’d spent together in nearly a week. After an afternoon of shopping & decompressing from the disaster that was this week, we decided have a “date night”. It consisted of a cheap LIDL Lasagne and a video essay talking about to toxicity of Survival Game Communities. I know, so exciting!

Ed was back at work today and I was struggling, majorly. Although a Uni day of lectures and the concept of Semiotics, I wasn’t doing too hot. I decided to take Koda for a walk to try clearing my head & process everything going on around me. Although he was being a pain in the butt, it was well needed.

A long day at University and I was ready to go home. We wrapped up the day & I ended up having a short coma of a nap. When Ed came in to check on me, we ended up nattering away & playing with Koda. As we’re not big light people, the house was only lit by lamps, LED’s and Ed’s phone. It looked fantastic!

Today was a long day of packing, organizing and cleaning. We were due to receive our new house keys next week and wanted to make sure we were ready. After hauling everything downstairs, we flopped on the bed to be greeted by Koda and his new favourite toy. If you know the rules of my home, If Koda brings you a toy, you must play!

Everything was leading up to tonight. Three years of waiting and we’d finally got to the preview screening of Iron Lung. We had to be in Bolton for 10pm but decided to get dinner before hand. We got into the cinema early and were the only ones sat. An empty doctors office is one thing, an empty cinema is scarier. It feels like something out of a horror film. Almost appropriate considering Iron Lung itself is a horror film. This film means so much to Ed and I and we loved every moment of it! I cannot wait to see it again!

We were so tired, it’s insane. We didn’t get home until 3am and slept into the afternoon. I spent the evening focusing on university work and joining Ed into Stardew valley for a while. I focused on my keyboard for todays image as It’s an annoyingly small keyboard that makes working & gaming on it difficult. That being said, I do love it.

Our housemate moved out today and I wanted to make sure Koda & I were out the way. We went for a long walk and he made a new friend. However, I don’t think the squirrel he met thought the same. Koda being of a dramatic nature, sat down and refused to move from that spot until the squirrel left his sight. Having a dog that is considerably stronger than you are does have it’s drawbacks sometimes.

Now that our Housemate and her cat had moved out, I could enjoy my living room again without worrying about my allergies. Sitting down, watching some videos, I’d forgotten just how irritating the street lights were. They shone straight into the room, feeling like a spotlights on you at all times. If you caught them at the wrong angle, they looked like eyes watching you. That and I noticed how disgusting my windows were…

I wanted to sit and crochet something tonight to pass the time however, when I saw the state of my yarn box, I knew it needed sorting. I ended up getting side-tracked clearing out most of the box and only keeping what I needed. By the time I’d finished, it was too late to start making anything.

After last nights fiasco of running out of time, I decided to find a little pattern for something and make it. That’s how this gummy bear guy came about. He took way too long to make and I got so confused multiple times. I’m so proud of it, considering normally I struggle with things like this.

We’d found out today that our house move had been delayed by a week. We were supposed to pick the keys up tomorrow but now, it wouldn’t be until the 11th at the earliest. With that, I shut down. I struggled moving, let alone getting dressed. I ended up curled on the sofa, brew in hand, talking to my mum for hours. Sometimes that’s all we need on a bad day – a natter with your mum!

A little bit of retail therapy never hurt anyone! I was getting so overwhelmed with the move that I took myself off shopping. I only needed to get some bubble wrap but I got distracted by the 5ft teddy bear that I so desperately wanted but was told I wasn’t allowed. I thought it was brilliant for the idea of the Teddy taking a selfie, leaning over the crate he was in. I still want one but I’ve been told “No”.

Another day at home and I’m back to packing. Still in the office however, this time it’s my collections that we need to pack. I spent way too long sorting out my trading cards, trying to make sure they’re all secure and safe for the move and that, if any were damaged, they weren’t valuable ones. We didn’t do much else that day, other than pack and watch videos along with it. The end of this period is in sight and we cannot wait!

Getting wrapped up in the move, I’d completely neglected my University Work. On strict instructions from Ed, I was to focus on nothing else but that today. I spent most of the day at my laptop however realised that I needed to shoot a roll of colour film at some point. I loaded the film & took myself off for a walk around the estate, grabbing photos of anything strange or weird. When I’d stopped at the bridge, I had the funny idea to take a photo through the viewfinder with my phone. It looked amazing, even if it did take me multiple attempts to get the focus point right.

We’d just found out that my dad was coming up to help with the move. With this, we needed to buy a spare bed for the new house. One quick trip later and we’re wandering around IKEA trying to figure out what that orange ball is on the wall. It wasn’t until we got much closer we realised that it was a chair! I got told off for contemplating making a 74 year old man try and sit on it and proceeded to sulk around the “Office” section of the store.
